Met up with Joashua and Guobang and one of Guobang’s friend for pool and supper, and it was really a calorie laden night… First Ba Ku Teh at Zion Road, then Roti Prata at Beauty World immediately after that…
It has been a while since I met up with the two of them; the last time I saw them was the night of my birthday if I remembered correctly.
Guobang’s friend, an air force regular was highly entertaining and had us entertained with his tales from his studies overseas (think he did his bachelors in both NUS and Leeds under some USP program if I remembered correctly), his army career and his conquest, though they must be take with a grain of salt… hmm maybe a whole chunk of salt.
It was nice to learn that Joshua has successfully applied for an overseas exchange to Canada next January. Hmmm I guess it will really be an eye opening experience for him and that he will really be enjoying the overseas experience; first the work and play program in the United States this holidays, and the exchange program to Ontario.
Last night we also witnessed a fight between an old women and uncle over some empty cans; presumably they are collecting cans to sell for a living. It really saddens to see such events unfolding before your eyes I guess partially because we are usually not exposed to such harsh reality of life most times whereby money become so tight and the fact that that old women is someone’s mom and that uncle someone’s dad… and at this age still have to scavenge around for empty cans and tins. Thankful should we be for what we have.
My last week spent in SMU was a pretty enjoyable one, and I found the tutors rather interesting and their lessons interesting but I don’t really think that students over at SMU are any more different than those you find in NTU. They are not really all that vocal with the exception of a few but then it could be because it was only the first week of school.
But I got to admit they do take more effort to dress for lessons and I guess slightly better at presenting (I was quite impressed with the two groups in Jane Lu’s
strategy class last Tuesday) though I feel they are quite lacking in the area of technical competency which I think could be attributed to the flexibility of their academic structure (for NTU we do certain subjects for each semester and hence I think we have a much stronger foundation) and their focus on concepts then details.
Well, other than that I have been helping out in Impresario and still have yet to touch much of the readings. In fact I will be heading down to Tampines Mall later at around 10.
K K… time for a short run…. till the next time...
