I am so tired… there seems so much to do and so little time to do. The numerous projects, the case club proposal, dance, YEC…
Met up with the vice dean of business, Christina Soh and Asian case director, Prof Wee on Wednesday regarding the formation of the case club and it was comforting to hear that at least the school is supportive of such initiative… but there still are so much issues to iron out – the timelines of our proposed events, the status of the club, key performance indicators…
They always say that a person should always plan; that failing to plan would be planning to fail… but then again so what if one has all the plans in the world. It just doesn’t matter when lady luck don’t take sides with you.
It’s been a few weeks since my last entry, and yeah not only did I not get into any companies, neither did I get into any in round 2. So now what? Phase three that is… on a first come first serve basis they tell me.
Sometimes I wonder… if the purpose of an internship or a professional attachment is to learn something useful for that eight to ten weeks why do they make it compulsory for students to all go on the same time even if it means that some of them would be thrown into positions whereby they are fulfilling nothing much more than general administrative duties. Why not let us just find any company that calls for administrative staff and let us take home a larger sum for doing the same amount of stuff.
I am so tired…

Another day gone and still no JPMorgan call, anyway I have more or less given up on any hope of landing a company for phase one…
It is not that I am a pessimistic but I am not even thinking of Credit Suisse First Boston, not that I think I screwed up for my interview nor that I am not up to the task for the internship but rather I found myself competing against MBA students, one of them a Chinese national from NUS having worked in the Bank of America before… and the questions that were posted to me were so technical that most times I was wishing that the interviewer would just move on to another question, or ask the typical questions like why did I am applying for the department or so…
For all those who have yet to hear me complain, my question goes something like ‘if you were to wake up and find yourself the CEO of CSFB/ or if u own an investment bank, what kind of structure do u want it to have. What kind of people would u want to employ (the different traders, not personality…)? If front end/back ends, what departments would you want to have?’
Never before the interview has I realized just how competitive it would be, even to apply for just an internship nor that I foresee myself competing with MBA students for the internship… but I guess it is good that I found out now rather than later when I am applying for an actual job…
Well, for now I will just hope for the best and look at what companies are available for phase two of the professional attachment application and for the investment banking quiz that is due this Friday
